Freezing your trophy is the best short-term storage option, but
due to freezer burn you should not plan to store any animal or bird for
longer than 6 weeks. It is still recommended that you get your trophy to
your taxidermist as soon as possible.
-
Avoid dragging any animal on the ground.
Place a tarp or old blanket under the animal if you must drag it or use a
game carrier. You can cause serious hair damage from rocks, sticks and
other materials on the ground.
-
When hanging your deer, do so by the hind
legs. Do not hang by the neck.
-
If you are planning a trip where a freezer
will not be available, please contact me, and I can advise you on the
proper steps to take for saving your trophy.
-
Never allow a bird, animal or fish to lay in
direct sunlight no matter what the temperature.
